Tailor-Made Travel to Morocco

Discover authentic experiences. Plan your trip with local experts.

Morocco has a way of arriving all at once. The call to prayer at dusk over a medina rooftop, cumin and cedar drifting through a souk, late-afternoon light turning the Atlas Mountains to rust. The geometric tilework, the palace courtyards, the unhurried three-hour lunch. Our Morocco tailor-made tours go looking for exactly that layer beneath the postcard version – not the fixed itinerary, but the one built around what you actually want to see.

Every one of our custom tours of Morocco starts from a blank page rather than a set list of stops. Built on relationships with guides, cooks and craftspeople, our bespoke Morocco tours go beyond the famous squares and the medina walk: the 9th-century Fes tannery where a leather craftsman explains the process better than any guidebook, the Draa Valley kasbahs most visitors drive straight past on the way to the Sahara, and the High Atlas villages very few venture to.

Booking a tailor-made trip to Morocco with Just Explore means travelling at your own pace, with a confidence that everything is taken care of. We handle the practical side of these bespoke journeys – routes, drivers, riads, the language gap – so you’re free to actually be in the place rather than managing it.

The Essence of Morocco

Exotic, colourful and wonderfully diverse, Morocco is a land of ancient cities, dramatic mountains, golden desert landscapes and centuries-old traditions. Discover its contrasts on this 10-day private tour, travelling from vibrant Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains and into the Sahara before continuing north through Fes, Chefchaouen and Tangier.

Our Morocco Tailor-Made Experiences

Morocco is a country where what you do matters as much as where you go. You can spend a morning learning to lay zellij tile from a craftsman in the Fes medina, or a half-day with a herbalist in the Marrakech souks whose family has been mixing remedies for three generations. You can trek between Berber villages in the High Atlas, ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes at dusk, or spend an afternoon learning to make pastilla in a riad kitchen with a cook who learned from her grandmother. These are the things that stay with you.

The themes below are some of the most popular ways our travellers explore Morocco – and they’re only a starting point. Tell us what you’re curious about and we’ll connect you with the guides, cooks and craftspeople who bring each one to life.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Rosa Lara, CEO & Founder

Meet Rosa, the Expert Behind Just Explore

Just Explore was founded by Rosa Lara, a born-and-raised Andalusian who has spent years travelling every region of Spain. The company grew out of a simple frustration: too many people were visiting extraordinary places without ever really experiencing them – rushed through crowded sights while the people, traditions and flavours that make Spain special passed them by.

Morocco felt like a natural next step for Just Explore. Its proximity to Andalucia makes it easy to combine the two destinations, but the connection goes much deeper than geography – Morocco’s influence is still visible all over southern Spain, in Andalucia’s architecture, its decorative arts, its flavours and its culinary traditions. After travelling with us in Spain, many clients started asking if we could extend their journey into Morocco with the same carefully planned, personal approach.

So Rosa set out to design the kind of trips she’d recommend to her own family and friends. Sometimes that means a quiet riad over a famous landmark, or longer in fewer places. Always it means honest advice and itineraries built on first-hand knowledge – the riads she’s stayed in, the guides she’s met and the routes she’s travelled herself.

More than a decade on, Rosa and her team still plan every journey personally – and you’ll deal directly with the person shaping your trip, from your first message to your final day in Morocco.

The Insider Guide to Morocco

Getting a Morocco trip right takes more than a list of must-sees — it means knowing which region suits which time of year, how the distances between places actually work, and where the tour buses haven’t reached yet. That’s the kind of detail Rosa and the team have built up over years of returning to the same medinas, mountains and coastlines, and it’s what shapes everything below: where to focus, when to travel, and what’s worth knowing before you go.

Choosing Your Part of Morocco

Morocco is more varied than most first-time visitors expect, and that variety is part of what makes it worth more than a week.

Marrakech is where most trips begin, and with reason. The Djemaa el-Fna square shifts in character every few hours — a food market in the morning, a theatre of storytellers and musicians at dusk — and the medina behind it has neighbourhoods that reward an afternoon of getting deliberately lost. But Marrakech also makes a useful base: the High Atlas is an hour’s drive into the mountains, the Ourika Valley is just south, and Essaouira — a whitewashed Atlantic port with a distinct Gnawa music culture and one of Morocco’s best fish markets — is three hours west.

Fes is the place that stops most travellers in their tracks. Fes el-Bali, the medieval medina, is a Unesco World Heritage site and one of the world’s largest living car-free urban areas — a 13th-century city that still functions largely as it always has, with tanneries, copper-beaters, zellige tile workshops and medersa courtyards that seem to go on forever. The chaos is real but so is what’s underneath it, and a good guide makes the difference between confusion and revelation.

Further north, Chefchaouen is the blue-painted mountain town the photographs can’t quite do justice: built into the Rif Mountains, winding and quiet, with a pace that suits travellers who’ve been moving quickly and need to stop. Tangier, at the tip of Africa looking across to Spain, has a literary and artistic history — Bowles, Matisse, Burroughs — that gives it an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Morocco. In the south, the Draa Valley runs through palmeries and oasis towns toward the Sahara, passing kasbahs that predate the tourist industry by several centuries.

When to Travel to Morocco

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for most of the country — March through May and September through November — when temperatures are warm without being punishing and the crowds are manageable. Spring brings wildflowers to the Atlas valleys and almond blossom to the pre-Saharan south. Autumn has the clearest desert skies.

Summer in Morocco’s interior cities — Fes, Marrakech, the pre-Saharan south — is genuinely hot, and for most travellers it’s worth avoiding July and August inland. The Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir) stays cooler year-round. Winter is mild along the coasts and cold in the mountains — the High Atlas has real snow from December into February, which opens up a quieter, more atmospheric kind of trip for travellers who want the walking routes without the summer crowds.

We time each itinerary to the season and the places you want to see — and if your dates are fixed, we’ll plan around them rather than against them.

How We Plan it Differently

Morocco is one of those destinations where the gap between a surface visit and a genuinely memorable one can be very wide — and almost entirely explained by the quality of your guide and the specificity of what you’ve been pointed towards. The Djemaa el-Fna is always worth an evening, but the Marrakech dinner you’ll still be talking about next year is in a house two streets into the medina with no sign outside. The tanneries are extraordinary, but knowing which terrace to watch from and when, and having a craftsman who actually explains what you’re looking at, is a completely different experience from the standard tourist visit.

Our custom Morocco tours are built on that kind of knowledge. We keep private journeys properly private, advice honest rather than commission-driven, and itineraries genuinely built around the traveller rather than assembled from a standard list of stops. Whether it’s your first time or your fourth, you’ll end up with something that feels like Morocco as it actually is — not the version it presents to visitors moving quickly through it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a tailor-made tour of Morocco?

A tailor-made tour of Morocco is a private journey we design from scratch rather than a fixed itinerary. The route, pace, accommodation, guides and daily programme are chosen around you — your interests, your travel style, the time you have and the budget you’re working to. No two of our customised Morocco tours are the same.

When should I start planning a bespoke Morocco trip?

Six to ten months ahead is comfortable for most of the year. For spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) — the peak travel seasons — earlier is better, particularly if you want specific riads or private guides who book up quickly. That said, we do arrange custom Morocco trips at shorter notice when we can.

What’s included in a customised Morocco tour?

Most of our bespoke Morocco holidays include accommodation in carefully chosen riads and hotels, expert English-speaking local guides, private transport and selected experiences, along with a detailed day-by-day itinerary and 24/7 support throughout your trip. You’ll also have access to our mobile app, keeping your full itinerary available offline. International flights are typically the one element we leave with you.

Do I need to speak French or Arabic to travel in Morocco?

Not at all. All our Morocco itineraries include English-speaking local guides, and we handle any language logistics before and during your trip. Knowing a few phrases in Darija (Moroccan Arabic) or French is always appreciated by the people you meet, but it’s not a requirement for travelling well.

Are Morocco tailor-made tours suitable for first-time visitors?

Very much so – in fact, a tailor-made tour to Morocco is often the most sensible way to approach the destination for the first time. The medinas of Fes and Marrakech are genuinely disorienting without a guide who knows them, and travelling with someone who can explain what you’re looking at and introduce you to the right people is a completely different experience from finding your own way through.

Ready to plan your tailor-made trip to Morocco?

Tell us what kind of Morocco you’re looking for — a first visit to the imperial cities, the Sahara, the mountains, or a journey combining Morocco with southern Spain — and we’ll handle the rest.

Every Just Explore Morocco journey is built from scratch and planned with you directly, drawing on first-hand knowledge of the country. Whether it’s a private tour of the Fes medina, a High Atlas trek staying in Berber villages, a week in Marrakech that goes well beyond the surface, or a route tracing Moorish history from Andalucia to North Africa, we’ll shape an itinerary around you.
