“We were so very excited to be heading for Spain, which we have never been to, for a 3 week visit. With the help of Rosa at Just Explore we had a wonderful itinerary to follow.
We flew into Madrid and stayed at a marvelous hotel in the center of town. The following day we were given a tour of the city with an excellent guide.
Then things started to change… The Prado Museum had just closed by government order and quite rapidly, many public buildings and public areas were to be closed.
We were concerned, but thought perhaps this caution was limited to Madrid. The following day we took a train out to visit Toledo, and were met by our local guide for another tour. Some businesses and public buildings were closed, but the city is so beautiful, it was worth the trip.
Unfortunately, when we returned to our hotel that afternoon, it was in the process of closing down, and we were taken to another ’sister’ hotel. Things were moving really fast in shutting down not just the city, but the whole country. It was just heartbreaking, not only for our trip, but primarily for the country of Spain.
Rosa continued to check on us during our stay, and regretfully, on the 3rd day, encouraged us to try and get home as soon as possible. We were able to find a 3 legged flight back to our home state in the US. And the staff at the hotel was gracious in helping us get to the airport early the next morning.
It was a harrowing time, and we were so grateful that we were able to get home safe and sound.
Hopefully some day we can finish our trip to such a beautiful country
