From the historic bodegas of Jerez and Montilla to the rising stars of Ronda and Málaga, experience wine tours in Andalucia to learn about local viticulture and taste a selection of vintages from four different wine regions.

In addition to visiting wineries in Andalucia, this small group tour introduces you to local gastronomy from paired lunches to tapas tastings. Also on the menu is an exploration of the region’s unique architectural heritage and vibrant culture.

Andalucia’s rich wine tradition dates back to 1100BC, when the Phoenicians first planted vineyards in the fertile lands of Cadiz. Wine production flourished under Roman rule and continued into the Moorish period. Despite the Quran’s prohibition on alcohol, the Moors found creative ways to justify wine consumption, often citing medical purposes. By the 15th century, Andalucian wine, in particular sherry and sweet wine from Málaga, were highly prized throughout Europe. However, the 19th century brought significant challenges with the Oidium fungus and Phylloxera, leading to the replanting of vineyards with American rootstock to combat pests.

Today, Andalucia is renowned for its diverse and rich wine culture, with over 40,000 hectares of vineyards across 20 regions. This small group exploration will embark on a number of wine tours in Andalucia, with visits to ancestral cellars and boutique family wineries in Axarquía and Ronda in D.O. Sierras de Málaga, Montilla in D.O. Montilla-Moriles, and Jérez in D.O. Sherry.

Guided visits to Córdoba’s exquisite mosque and the ruins of the Roman city of Acinipo add architectural and historic interest. An afternoon amid the wetlands and birdlife of the Doñana Natural Park allows you to immerse yourself in wildlife and nature. Flamenco and equestrian shows in Jérez complete the menu on this educational and flavoursome wine tour in Spain.
